Itinerary
Day 1 - Starting: Hoi An & Finishing: Hoi An
Your Independent Experience begins in Hoi An, where you'll be transferred from the airport to your hotel. Settle in and meet your local guide, who will give you some tips on how to spend your first day, including some good local restaurant recommendations.
Day 2 - Starting: Hoi An & Finishing: Hoi An
Explore Hoi An and its lovely Old Town. Your guide will take you on an orientation tour which introduces you to the rich heritage of the city. Hoi An has been influenced by a myriad of traders from various cultures, giving it a unique feel. You will notice a distinctly Chinese appearance here, with pagodas and assembly halls scattered along the narrow streets. It was once a bustling Cham port city, before the river silted up; today it is an ambient backwater town with an air of liveliness about it. It is a consistent favourite among Peregrine travellers and staff. After your tour, enjoy some free time to explore the town at your leisure.Â
Day 3 - Starting: Hoi An & Finishing: Hoi An
With a free day to explore Hoi An, you have many options. The town is well known for its tailoring, so perhaps take the opportunity to get fitted for some fine handmade garments. Many tailors offer a same-day service, and the market is a great place to buy silk that can be made into clothing. Those who fancy some time at the beach can get there easily on a rented bicycle, as it's only a short distance from town. For a more in-depth bicycle trip, head out into the surrounding countryside, where quiet rice paddies and small creeks make for a beautiful picture of rural life. Alternatively, stay in town and perhaps take a cooking class to learn the secrets of Vietnam's fresh, light and spicy cuisine. A boat cruise up the Thu Bon River is also highly recommended.
Day 4 - Starting: Hue & Finishing: Hue
Leave Hoi An behind and head for Hue. Along the way, stop at China Beach (known locally as My Khe Beach) and pass through the gorgeous Hai Van Pass – a scenic, mountainous stretch of highway with views across Lang Co Beach. You'll stop in at this beach, with time to dip your feet in and get some lunch. Continue to Hue, the hub of Vietnam’s historic past. This city used to be the Imperial capital of Vietnam, and today is an eclectic mix of busy streets and peaceful beauty. You will visit the Imperial Citadel, including the Forbidden Purple City. The latter was almost completely destroyed during the Tet Offensive in the Vietnam War, but its humble, foliage-covered ruins remain a testament to its proud history. Later on, enjoy a boat cruise on the Perfume River, then visit the Thien Mu Pagoda – the unofficial symbol of Hue. This pagoda belongs to a monastery that has been active for more than 400 years.
Day 5 - Starting: Hue & Finishing: Hue
Bid farewell to Hue today. A transfer to the airport or train station is included. Depending on your departure plans, you may have some of your own time to go shopping or see some sights. Additional accommodation is available to extend your stay.
