Itinerary
Day 1 - Starting: Puno & Finishing: Puno
Your trip starts today in Puno with an included arrival transfer from either Juliaca airport or Puno bus station. Please advise us how you will be arriving in Puno. Juliaca is the nearest aiport to Puno, which is just under 50 kilometres away. Your local guide will welcome you this evening at approximately 6 pm at your hotel and explain the next few days' activities. The town of Puno is situated on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world at 3810 metres. It is a colourful and lively place renowned for its traditional street dancing, often performed in celebration of Catholic festive days in February each year. An important agricultural centre, Puno is reasonably compact and centred around the pedestrian part of Calle Lima, which is full of restaurants and bars. The town is a launching pad for excursions out on Lake Titicaca whilst on the surrounding plateaus, grazing alpacas and llamas are familiar sights. Spend free time exploring the town. Stop in at the Coca Museum or perhaps visit the 17th-century Casa del Corregidor – one of the oldest houses in the city. Notes: On this trip not all services are private. Services in the Lake Titicaca are shared so you may be taking park in activities with likeminded travellers from other companies.
Day 2 - Starting: Uros Islands - Taquile - Suasi & Finishing: Uros Islands - Taquile - Suasi
This morning you will be picked up between 8:30 am and 9 am. Please confirm the time when you meet with our representative in the evening of Day 1. Then, be enchanted by the striking scenery and unique cultures on a cruise around Lake Titicaca. Stop by the amazing floating Uros islands which are created entirely from reeds, one of Lake Titicaca’s most interesting sights. These forty or so islands were handmade from a natural reed-like papyrus by the pre-Incan Uru people. Visit Taquile Island, on the Peruvian side of the lake and peruse its residents’ renowned handicrafts, including woollen items. Retire to your eco-lodge on the private Island of Suasi. Enjoy an included dinner tonight at the lodge.
Day 3 - Starting: Suasi & Finishing: Suasi
Today you have a free day to explore the Island of Suasi. The following are some of the activities available: Trek to Mount Itapilluni - this late-afternoon trek takes you to the highest point of the island where you will witness an unforgettable sunset over Lake Titicaca. The trek takes approximately 1-2 hours and it's relatively easy. Canoe on Lake Titicaca - navigate across the island in Canadian canoes, passing through totora reeds and observing lake birds such as Titicaca flightless grebe, Andean geese, black skimmer, Peruvian booby and many species of gulls. On 106-hectare Suasi Island, you may see mammals such as all four species of camelids (llamas, alpacas, vicunas and guanacos) and viscachas. Alternatively you may simply wish to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. There are also several other optional activities offered by the lodge at an additional cost. Please speak to your tour guide for more information.
Day 4 - Starting: Puno & Finishing: Puno
Please note that a departure transfer is included in your Lake Titicaca Experience. Please advise us if you would like to be transferred to the Juliaca Airport (Puno) or to a Puno hotel if you have extra accommodation. Notes: If you are flying out of Juliaca airport in Puno on the final day of this trip, please ensure the flight is booked to depart after 12pm. If you are heading back to Puno town and have alternative arrangements, please keep in mind that you won't arrive until approximately 1500/3pm. Puno is the hometown of Kusimayo, a terrific local organisation that works towards improving the living condition of children and adults affected by poverty and malnutrition in this part of the world you have now come to know so well. Take a look at this short video for more information on this wonderful project: https://vimeo.com/154422813 Kusimayo is supported by the Intrepid Foundation which means you can donate to this project and your donation will be match dollar for dollar by the Intrepid Group.
