Day 1 - Starting: Mandalay & Finishing: Mandalay
Your Independent Experience starts today in Mandalay with an arrival transfer. Meet your guide at your accommodation and get some tips on how to spend your first day exploring and the best place for dinner.
Day 2 - Starting: Mandalay & Finishing: Mandalay
You will make your way down to the city’s lively waterfront today, the perfect backdrop for your boat trip up-river to Mingun - the site of the world's largest pagoda (albeit unfinished), the world’s largest unbroken bell, and temples dating back hundreds, if not thousands of years.
In the evening you climb Mandalay Hill (236 metres). In times gone by this was an arduous walk, but these days, if in operation, a series of large escalators will do most of the work for you.
Day 3 - Starting: Mandalay & Finishing: Mandalay
A drive to one of Burma's most famous hill stations, Maymyo (Pyin U Lwin), will provide a welcome escape from the heat of the plains. Established during the colonial era in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it is today a crossroad for traders coming over from China. This is reflected in the colourful local market.
Day 4 - Starting: Mandalay & Finishing: Mandalay
Say farewell to Mandalay today.
Depending on your departure plans, you may have some of your own free time for shopping or sights.
Transfer to the airport, train station or ferry terminal included.
Additional accommodation is available to extend your stay or you may like to add on another of our Independent Experiences in Myanmar or South East Asia.

More Information
The reasons for Mingun’s dramatic 18th-century pagoda never being finished are still up for debate. According to legend, King Bodawpaya, who oversaw its construction, was warned by an astrologer that he would die if he completed the temple. Another theory suggests the project was simply too big and too burdensome to continue. Historians have estimated that this already imposing temple would stand at over 150 metres high if construction had been completed.  Â
