Itinerary
Day 1 - Starting: Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve & Finishing: Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve
This independent Experience starts at your Nairobi hotel or from Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where you will be met by our representative and transferred to Wilson Airport (Nairobi's domestic airport). At Wilson Airport you’ll take a one-hour flight to the Masai Mara airstrip, where you’ll be met by your Masai Mara guide and transferred to your camp. There are two flights daily from Wilson Airport (9:15am and 3:15pm). Depending on availability, we will try to book you on the earlier flight, if you are staying overnight in Nairobi or if your international flight arrival into Nairobi allows you sufficient time to clear customs and be transferred to Wilson Airport. If you catch the earlier flight, you’ll have lunch on arrival at the Mara Camp before enjoying an afternoon/evening game drive, when you could have the good fortune to observe a black-maned lion, leopard or a cheetah. If you catch the later flight, you’ll arrive at the Mara Camp in time for dinner. Your camp in the Masai Mara is a classic luxury bush camp and is completely unfenced. The cosy dining area, open fireplace and tented accommodation make for a unique and intimate ambience. Enjoy dinner served al-fresco in a clearing overlooking the sweeping Masai Mara plains or in the spacious dining tent. Notes: All camp tents are spacious, fully insect-proof and set in typical east African style, furnished with beds, linen, bedside tables and luggage storage racks. Bathrooms are en suites equipped with a dresser, shower and ecologically-friendly 'dry' toilet.
Day 2 - Starting: Masai Mara National Reserve & Finishing: Masai Mara National Reserve
Continue your exploration of arguably one of the finest game reserves on the continent. Take in vistas of rolling green plains and riverine woodlands, not to mention many species of game. Your daily routine at Masai Mara will vary, as on some days picnics will be taken out on extended half-day or full-day game drives. Your typical daily routine however involves waking at dawn for a light breakfast followed by an early morning game drive, setting off at sunrise and returning to the camp three to four hours later. Breakfast is a leisurely affair, taken outdoors in the morning sunlight, with lunch usually served al-fresco too. During the heat of the day there’s time to relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the bush, punctuated only by intermittent bird calls. An afternoon game drive departs around 4pm and returns after sunset. On returning to the camp, freshen up before joining other guests around the campfire for a pre-dinner drink. Dinner is served by candlelight in the dining tent. Enjoy a nightcap by the fire before retiring to the sounds of the wild.
Day 3 - Starting: Masai Mara National Reserve & Finishing: Masai Mara National Reserve
Today is another full day of game drives. The Masai Mara National Reserve is famed for its physical beauty and abundance of wildlife – along with the ‘Big Five’, there are also 570 recorded bird types in the park, including the grey-crowned crane and the colourful lilac-breasted roller. Because you leave the camp as the sun rises you shouldn't have any trouble spotting wildlife, as this is often one of the most active times of day for animals. Look out for massive herds of wildebeest, zebra, and Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, all of which roam these verdant grasslands. Elephants, giraffes and elands are also commonly sighted. There are also escorted bush walks available from the camp, when you can great right into the heart of the landscape, learn to identify animal tracks, and get closer to African wildlife than you ever thought possible.
Day 4 - Starting: Masai Mara - Nairobi & Finishing: Masai Mara - Nairobi
This morning you’ll enjoy your final sunrise game drive to soak up the memorable Masai Mara vistas, and then have a leisurely breakfast until departure. If you arrived on the morning flight into the Masai Mara, you will be booked on the morning flight back that arrives back in Nairobi between 12 noon and 1pm. Please do not book onward flights out of Nairobi prior to 6pm. If you arrived on the afternoon flight into the Masai Mara you will be booked on the afternoon flight, arriving back into Wilson Airport between 5pm and 6pm. Please do not book onwards flights out of Nairobi prior to 10pm. Upon arrival into Wilson Airport you will be met and transferred to either a Nairobi city hotel or Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
