Itinerary
Day 1 - Starting: Siem Reap & Finishing: Siem Reap
Your Independent Experience starts today with an included arrival transfer to Siem Reap, your base for exploring Angkor. You will meet your guide at your accommodation and receive some tips on how to spend your free time today. They will aid you with whatever you need, including the best places to eat nearby. Please note that as this is a private tour the order of activities on Days 2 and 3 may change or be flexible. Please speak to your guide for your exact itinerary on each day. Please advise your flight details at time of booking so as we can book this transfer for you.
Day 2 - Starting: Siem Reap - Angkor Wat & Finishing: Siem Reap - Angkor Wat
Today you’ll spend a full day visiting the amazing temples of Angkor on a guided tour. Begin with Angkor Thom, the 'Great Royal City', famous for its series of colossal human faces carved in stone. The impressive Bayon temple is the centrepiece. The temples are thought to represent the cosmic world and are about balance and symmetry, and the iconic archaeological site is a wonder to behold. Angkor Wat is the largest and most complete structure that you will visit. It is the only one of Angkor's temples with its entrance facing to the west (the others face east). This is because it was constructed as a funerary temple for King Suryavarman II, and a westerly countenance was seen to represent a sunset. Later on you have the opportunity to visit the Sala Bai Hotel School, where underprivileged local youths learn skills that enable them to find gainful employment in the hospitality industry. Then enjoy a lunch prepared by students at the school. You’ll also visit Ta Prohm, a temple where nature has taken over. It’s an incredible sight, with large trees embedding themselves in the stone foundations of the structure. Please note that Sal Bai Restaurant is closed on public holidays and school holidays, during these times an alternative restaurant will be used.
Day 3 - Starting: Siem Reap - Angkor Wat & Finishing: Siem Reap - Angkor Wat
Start early this morning as you travel the short distance out to the rose-coloured Banteay Srei. It’s not large, but it’s considered to be the best preserved of all of Cambodia’s temples, and the detailed and intricate stone carvings mean that the temple is sometimes referred to as ‘the jewel in the crown of Angkorian art’. You will then return to the main temple complex to explore the maze of vaulted corridors at Preah Khan, another complex that has been largely reclaimed by the jungle. Your ticket for the Angkor ruins enables you to spend more time exploring this memorable archaeological area if you wish. Maybe end the day with a sunset view of the temples. Later visit Angkor Children’s Hospital Friends Centre. The hospital was founded in 1999 through the efforts of acclaimed photographer Kenro Izu. It helps treat poor children in Siem Reap and surrounding provinces as well as providing training for health professionals from all over Cambodia. The Friends Centre features rotating art and photography exhibitions as well as the work of founder Kenro Izu. Enjoy a final nights dinner at a great local restaurant.
