Itinerary
Day 1 - Starting: Mendoza & Finishing: Mendoza
On arrival in Mendoza you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the city. Please look for your transfer guide at the airport - they will be holding a sign with your name on it. Once you have checked into the hotel, the remainder of your first day will be free. You will meet with your local guide today who will give you a briefing about the next day's activities. Please speak to reception upon arrival for the exact place and time of this meeting. Mendoza, a city of 600,000 people, was originally founded in 1561 and was destroyed by fire and earthquake before being rebuilt in 1861. As a result it is a city of modern design and low buildings, as a precaution against future earthquakes. Another key feature of Mendoza is that it is home to some of Argentina’s finest wines. Mendoza is Argentina's most important grape growing region, producing 70% of the country's wine. Malbec is the region's signature variety. At night, attentions shifts to Avenida Aristides Villanueva. The many restaurants, bars and pubs make this area the epicentre of Mendoza's night life. If you're feeling adventurous, try one of the most popular drinks in town: fernet with coke - an acquired taste and not for the faint-hearted!
Day 2 - Starting: Mendoza & Finishing: Mendoza
This morning your guide will pick you up at approximately 9 am. Please be ready waiting in reception. Today you will embark on a tour of the city centre of Mendoza, visiting the Samiento pedestrian street, Plaza de Armas, a local market and Parque San Martin. The city centre is beautifully landscaped and full of trees, squares and parks. During the day Peatonal Sarmiento (Sarmiento pedestrian street) is the place to be. This coffee shop-lined street joins the busy San Martin St with Plaza Independencia making it a must destination for all mendocinos coming to the city. Near Plaza Independencia is Mercado Central (Central Market) a great destination to try the regional specialities such as empanadas (meat pastries), cheese, ham, marinated olives and local wines. Most commercial activities in Mendoza take a break from 1 pm to 4 pm to allow for the traditional siesta. Following the city tour you will visit multiple wineries in the Lujan de Cuyo region. You will enjoy an included lunch at one of them.
