Welcome to Vietnam. A Peregrine representative will be there to meet you at the airport. Transfer to your comfortable hotel, settle in, and meet your guide. You'll be given tips on how to spend your first day in Vietnam's bustling capital, including some recommendations for good places to dine this evening.
Day 2 - Starting: Halong Bay & Finishing: Halong Bay
Leave your luggage behind at the Hanoi hotel and pack an overnight bag for your trip. Enjoy some breakfast, then be driven to the famous Halong Bay (approximately 3 hours). This World Heritage-listed wonder is one of Vietnam's true gems. The views of sailing junks navigating past some 3,000 limestone islands are nothing short of spectacular. You will travel to Bai Chay (Halong City West). Here, board a boat and head for a cruise along the bay, sailing leisurely past its many islands and exploring its myriad coves. You'll also visit one of the caves in the area. In the warmer months, there's the chance for a swim at Ti Top Beach. Settle in for one magical night on board. Delicious fresh seafood will be served for lunch and dinner. You may also have the chance to do some kayaking (this is optional).
Notes: All boats used by Peregrine have twin-share cabins, ensuite facilities and air-conditioning. Non-seafood options are available for meals.
Day 3 - Starting: Hanoi & Finishing: Hanoi
In the morning, sail back to the port, disembark and transfer back to Hanoi. You will stop off at Dong Trieu village en route and visit an intriguing ceramic workshop. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you please. Walking or riding a bike is best for exploring Hanoi. The shopping is fun and the many lakes and parks provide enjoyable escapes from the city. Perhaps visit the Temple of Literature, One Pillar Pagoda and the former residence of Vietnam’s most famous revolutionary, Ho Chi Minh. Explore the ancient '36 streets' and discover an amazing selection of shops that sell everything from souvenirs to exquisite silk clothing, jewellery and beautifully embroidered tablecloths. The Vietnam Fine Arts Museum is also highly recommended. In the evening, you might like to attend a traditional water-puppet performance.
Day 4 - Starting: Hanoi & Finishing: Hanoi
Your trip comes to an end after breakfast. You will be transferred to the airport or train station for any onward travel. For those staying longer, additional accommodation is available.
According to local legend, Halong Bay’s otherworldly limestone constellation formed from a ‘descending dragon’ that came from the mountains and changed the landscape forever. No less alluring is the geological explanation, which cites 500 million years of shifts in the mountains and sea, and a 20 million-year period of gradual karst erosion.
