Itinerary

Day 1

Santiago de Compostela

Your Independent Experience begins with a Welcome Meeting with your local guide at 7.15pm.You can arrive at any time (earliest check in time at the start point hotel is 4pm), as there are no activities planned until this important meeting. Please look for a note in the hotel lobby or ask the hotel reception where it will take place. If you can't arrange a flight that will arrive in time, you may wish to arrive a day early so you're able to attend. We'll be happy to book additional accommodation for you (subject to availability). If you're going to be late, please inform the hotel reception. We'll be collecting your insurance details and next of kin information at this meeting, so please ensure you have all these details to provide to your guide.Your guide will take you on an evening walk into the historic centre of Santiago de Compostela. We head for Rúa da Raíña and Rúa Franco, whose streets are full of bars and old taverns serving Galician wines and traditional tapas. In many, house wine is still drunk in ceramic bowls rather than wine glasses. We will sample some of the more famous tapas bars before heading to one of Santiago’s top restaurants for dinner.

More Information

It’s impossible to sample everything in Galicia – an area as famous for its wines and cheeses as its seafood. But no trip here is complete without trying the signature dish of pulpo a la gallega – boiled octopus in bite-sized pieces with olive oil and paprika, traditionally served on a wooden plate and preferably with a glass of young red wine.
